Midget Girls OBA Division 2 Champions‏

Lady Warriors - Midget Girls D2 Champs!! (2)

Last weekend, Brampton Warriors Midget Girls team travelled all the way to Sault Ste Marie, to compete in the 2012 Midget Girls (U15) basketball Ontario Cup. The lady warriors headed into the Provincial Championships ranked 9th overall in the province – 1st in Division 2- despite a 21 -7 record, and a 13-0 winning streak going into the provincial Championships. Disappointed that they were not in Division 1, the girls took out their frustrations on the Division 2 competition.

They started the provincials, the Friday night, by soundly Stoney Creek 50-32. Top scorers were Yanique Smith-18 pts, Jennah Rampersaud-12 pts, and Angeline Campbell -8pts. The following day , they handily defeated London 86’ers 58-44. Top scorers were Yanique Smith-19 pts, Angeline Campbell-11pts,  Jennah Rampersaud-10 pts, and Chelsea Asare-9pts.  Later that day, they ran into a determined and desperate Barrie Royals team, who were facing elimination. Brampton managed to endure Barrie’s constant attack and defensive press, and came out with a 45-39 win. Top scorers were Yanique Smith-14 pts, Chelsea Asare-10 pts, and Aalysha Vickers with 9 pts.

After going 3-0 in Pool play, Brampton earned top spot in their Division 2 pool, which further earned them a semi-final berth versus Kanata Cavaliers, Sunday morning. Still stinging from their exclusion from competing in Division 1, the girls came out determined and focused. Kanata was able to keep it close for the 1st quarter, but then the girls just kicked it into another gear and pulled away, easily beating Kanata 57-38. Top scorers were Jennah Rampersaud-11 pts, Georgia Campbell -11pts, Jahnae Gyles -11 pts, and Yanique Smith-10 pts.

For the Championship game, Brampton had to Face Stoney Creek, the team that they easily defeated to start the provincial championships. Knowing in their minds, that they should have been playing for a division 1 championship, the Lady Warriors did not let up one bit against Stoney Creek. It was never close, as Brampton trounced Stoney Creek 74-48. Top scorers were Yanique Smith-198 pts, Jennah Rampersaud-14 pts, Jehnae Smith-14 pts, and Georgia Campbell 13 pts.

Congratulations to All of the Lady Warriors, Aalysha Vickers, Angeline Campbell, Chelsea Asare, Georgia Campbell, Jahnae Gyles, Jenelle Miller, Jennah Rampersaud, Komal Dosanjh, Racquel Dyer, Simran Bagri, Sofia Florece, Victoria Viscardi, and Yanique Smith. Congratulations also to Head Coach Clive Campbell, who in his rookie season as Head Coach, guided his team to a 26-7 record and a Division 2 Provincial Championship, proving that they are indeed one of the premier Midget Girls teams, in the province . Congrats also goes out to Assisant Coach Ivor Christopher and Team Manager Cathy Viscardi, for their guidance and support.

The girls would also like to thank their Family and supporters, BMBA, and especially their team sponsor Powersonic Industries for helping make this a Championship season.
