Ameera Samad (Bantam Girls Tonner) has huge shoes to fill.
Chanel Ramcharran (5’5″, PG, Dunbarton), first cousin of Ameera, has signed her Letter Of Intent to attend and play for the Bryant Bulldogs of the NEC (Northeast Conference). Chanel resides east of the GTA and plays for a local rep team (we’re sure if she lived West, she would be playing for the Lady Warriors!)
Chanel gave Bryant her verbal commitment as her choice of school back in early August. A choice she says, would meet her needs both on and off the court.
Crown Magazine a premier source for high school basketball news, cites “there is a maturity about her <Chanel> that allows her to usually see the bigger picture. It is with that maturity that she will use to guide her through University life.”
Ameera brings the same maturity as her cousin to her game. Assistant Coach, Geraldine Stafford notes that Ameera is a very focused and coachable player. “Ameera works hard, with a wonderful attitude and has the drive, determination and skill to be a JUEL player in future years. Ameera will emerge as a strong forward, and with continued work on her perimeter shooting will contribute a lot of points”.
Chanel’s pursuance of post secondary education on a basketball scholarship speaks to an amazing pool of girls talent in the GTA. With Brampton Lady Warriors boasting a record number of girls continuing their basketball careers in post-secondary institutions and the amount of Lady Warrior teams registered as OBA/JUEL, Brampton Lady Warriors continue to excel both on and off the court!
Congratulations to Chanel, and all our Lady Warriors who understand that EXCELLENCE IS NOT AN OPTION!
